Guideline Requirements and Documentation for your Move to the United States

To manage a move to the United States, it is crucial to know the specific documents that are required. At Grupo Amygo, we inform you about the essential documentation that you must take into account:

Documents required for household goods and personal effects

  • Copy of the passport (you must take into account that some ports require passports for all family members listed in the 3299)
  • Form CF-3299 – declaration for free entry of unaccompanied articles (if applicable)
  • Copy of the visa if you are not a US citizen or if you are a permanent resident or the copy of the permanent resident card
  • Stamp / I-94 card
  • A-1 visa and Form DS-1504 (for diplomats only)
  • CBP Form 7501 – Customs Entry Summary and Form CF-6059B – Customs Declaration
  • Copy of Bill of Lading (OBL) or Air Waybill (AWB)
  • Detailed inventory in English as well as a Food Questionnaire
  • Importer Security File (ISF)
  • Permit C – Domestic Goods Permit in case alcohol is imported (for Hawaii)
  • Supplemental Declaration (required by most ports) (for Hawaii)

Required documents for motor vehicles:

  • Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Form EPA-3520-21 (if applicable)
  • Bill of Lading (OBL) for vehicles purchased abroad
  • Bill of Sale or Proforma Invoice with declaration of value as well as Title translated into English (only for vehicles purchased abroad)
  • Department of Transportation (DOT) Form HS-7
  • Proof of compliance by:
  • US Title/Registration
  • Manufacturer’s Letter of Compliance
  • Foreign Military Sales Contract indicating vehicle meets US EPA/DOT regulations
  • 25-year model exemption as evidenced by title
  • Copy of US Title or Registration when previously registered in the US (for vehicles previously owned and shipped from the US by returning residents or property owners.)
  • Completed EPA-3520-1, DOT, HS-7, and Customs 7501 forms (applicable to previously owned vehicles) owned and shipped from the US by the returning importer)
  • EPA Permission Letter (applicable to non-residents importing vehicles as tourists)
